COURSE OVERVIEW
The RSL Level 2 Certificate in Creative & Performing Arts - Acting
is a bespoke acting course and provides learners with skills, knowledge and understanding within the sphere of the creative and performing arts.
This Level 2 Qualification is a GCSE equivalent and is aimed at learners age 13 and above (school year 9+). There are no specific requirements for entry, although we encourage all students applying to have some experience within the creative and performing arts whether it be acting, singing or dance.
Throughout the course, students will work closely within the group to build their confidence, enhance their performance skills and learn to evaluate and analyse concepts relating to their studies.
COURSE OUTLINE
The course explores the following skills through both modern and classic dramatic writing;
Analytic Skills

Applying text analysis skills to the preparation of performance, underpinned by related vocal, physical & movement skills.
Communication Skills

Use of verbal & non-verbal communication in live performance (alone or with others), as appropriate

The capacity to constructively peer review the work of others

The ability to analyse and assess own skills and personal aims

The ability to assess and evaluate own work and develop strategies for improving own performance

The capacity to respond positively to tutor comments and evaluations

The ability to assess and utilise peer evaluation
Performing & Presentational Skills

Approaches to the creation of character and conveyance of narrative in rest base drama work

Ability to underpin well ‘realised’ use of dramatic text with appropriate and effective use of physical, movement and vocal techniques

Awareness of any related Heath & Safety issues.

UNITS
Students will study two units over the duration of the course;
Unit 1: Live Performance
Unit 2: Performing Text
Other optional units include; Acting for the camera, Vocal Techniques (Specific to Acting) & Working with masks & Puppetry
Within these units, students will apply a range of skills that will be of value to their further studies. Gaining basic understanding of concepts such as the nature of events, planning, repertoire, rehearsal schedules, health and safety, equipment and reviewing performances!

TIMETABLE
The course takes place over 2.5 hours every Saturday during term time (1:00pm - 3:30pm) and consists of 5 terms. In the the second year, it may be necessary for students to complete a short coursework surgery intensive during the February Half Term.
ASSESSMENT
The RSL Level 2 Certificate in Creative and Performing Arts (Acting) is equivalent to a GCSE qualification. The qualification is split in to two assessments under differing exam conditions. The first includes a timed assessment under controlled conditions based on assignments set and marked by Rock School Limited. The remaining unit is set and assessed internally by the course leader.
Learners must pass both units in order to be awarded the certificate. Within these assessments there are three bands P/M/D (Pass, Merit, Distinction).
There is no written examination at the end of this course.

HOW TO APPLY
